Common DV6 failures

  • Oil pickup pipe blockage from sludge, causing turbo and bearing failure
  • Turbo oil starvation and smoking
  • Timing belt failure on neglected service intervals
  • Swirl flap and EGR carbon build-up restricting the inlet
  • Excessive oil consumption on high-mileage units

Buying and fitting advice

  • Always replace the oil pickup pipe, filters and turbo when fitting a DV6 — reused sludged parts are the main cause of repeat failure.
  • Currently on back order with roughly a four-week lead time.
  • Exchange basis with a £350 refundable surcharge.
  • Use the correct low-SAPS oil and keep to a 10,000-mile interval on short-journey vehicles.
